It’s been only been roughly four months since they last played – and won the Kelly Cup – but the Reading Royals started their 2013-14 season Saturday night in front of over 6,000 fans.

The Royals were able to mount the small comeback needed against the South Carolina Stingrays from being down 2-1 in the third period and tied the game.

Riley Gill, the playoffs MVP last year, received the start in net and continued his successful play and was stellar in the shootout, stopping five of six skaters.

The Royals took the first game of the season with a 3-2 victory.
