Berks Catholic made a statement right from the start and ran all over visiting Kutztown, winning 55-15 Friday night in a Berks Football League Section 2 game.

Chris Warren followed his 70-yard touchdown return of the opening kickoff with an 80-yard scoring run on the next possession.

“That knocks the wind out of the sails of your opponent,” said Berks Catholic head coach Rick Keeley. “We stopped them and scored another touchdown before they got regrouped.”

Berks Catholic ran for touchdowns on its first six possessions to lead 42-0. Kutztown (0-4, 0-8) finally scored with 3:28 left in the first half.

Berks Catholic was led by Jack Huntsman and Will Budock. Huntsman rushed for 114 yards and two touchdowns on three carries. Budock ran for 109 yards and two TDs on six carries.

Quarterbacks Patrick Causa, Matt Kase and Jay Corley didn’t attempt a single pass. The Saints kept the ball on the ground and ran for 463 yards. They didn’t commit a turnover or have to punt.

“We are blessed to have some speed in the backfield,” Keeley said. “They (backs) just want to find their way into the end zone. It was fun watching them play.”

The Saints (4-0, 9-0) now turn their attention to next week’s season-ending showdown against Wyomissing, which faces Schuylkill Valley today.

“You can’t ask for a better matchup,” Keeley said. “It’s going to be an exciting football atmosphere. These guys are ready to play now.”
