Pequea Valley 13, Kutztown 3

At Kinzers, senior Maxwell Randolph set a Kutztown school record with a 51-yard field goal in a loss to the Braves.

Randolph was a jack-of-all-trades, also filling the roles of quarterback and punter.

Randolph’s record field goal finished the first half, which ended up being the only points Kutztown could muster. The senior broke the previous record of 47 yards set in 1983 by John Ford.

“It’s wonderful,” Randolph said. “The win would have been better to go with it, but a school record is a school record.”

Randolph entered the game at quarterback in the third quarter after an injury to starter Tucker Maletta.

Kutztown couldn’t find a rhythm to its offense as it took until its last drive of the first quarter to gain a first down. Maletta had more completions to the opposing team than he did his own as he only completed two passes on 12 attempts with three interceptions.

Kutztown coach Ben McKnight attributed the rough outing to the team’s lack of a game last week as Cavalry Christian forfeited.
