TRENTON, N.J. – The Trenton Titans were suffering a four-game losing skid coming into Friday night’s game, but through the play of Peter Lenes and Ryan Hayes, the Titans were able to gain their second victory of the season.

The Elmira Jackals had a 3-0 lead over halfway through the game, giving the feel of another loss coming to the Titans. All three goals were off of rebounds given up by goaltender Brad Phillips.

The tide changed, however, when the undersized Lenes – he is listed at 5-4 – scored a goal with just over a minute left in the second period.

“It was good for [Lenes] to finally get rewarded,” Titans head coach Vince Williams said. “He works so hard and he does a lot of other things. He creates a lot of space for everybody else out there. He got us going and everybody followed suit.”

The momentum clearly shifted in favor of Trenton in the third period. Titans players swarmed Jackals’ goaltender Marco Cousineau in the third and were able to score three goals in the span of 4:29. Phillips shut the door and stopped the eight shots he faced.

Hayes, in his first game back with the Titans after being traded in the summer, scored the game winning goal.

“It feels great,” Hayes said. “I got a good bounce. The guy just whacked it to me and I had to take a chance.”

Lenes and the team hope that this could be the turning point of the season for the Titans, who are now 2-6-0-0 and last in the division.

“Every game we’ve been in, we just haven’t learned to close games,” Lenes said. “This is a big step for us. You come back from 3-0 – that shows teams that we can do it. Definitely for ourselves, it is a turning point.”
