GAME 3: VAN 1 – BOS 8

BOSTON – The Bruins held their first home game of the Finals and took full advantage of it as they demolished the Canucks in an 8-1 victory.

The first period passed without a goal, but the most notable incident is when Aaron Rome flattened an unsuspecting Nathan Horton. Rome was given an interference major and game misconduct. Horton had to be stretchered off the ice.

The rout was on in the second period as Boston scored four unanswered goals from Andrew Ference, Mark Recchi, Brad Marchand and David Krejci. Recchi’s goal came on the power play and Marchand’s tally was shorthanded.

Daniel Paille added to the special teams goals with a shorthanded goal of his own in the third period.

Jannick Hansen broke Tim Thomas‘ shutout bid a little over two minutes later, but it was all the offense the Canucks could muster.

Recchi scored his second of the night and Chris Kelly and Michael Ryder added insult to injury in the final two minutes with their goals.

The third period also saw an explosion of aggression and bitterness between the two teams as they amassed 118 penalty minutes total in the period. Nine 10-minute misconducts were handed out to players.

What is most shocking is that Roberto Luongo remained in the game the entire time.

NEXT GAME: Wednesday at 8 p.m.

SERIES: 2-1 Vancouver
