No. 2 Philadelphia Flyers at No. 7 Buffalo Sabres
GAME 6: PHI 5 – BUF 4, OT

BUFFALO – With their backs against the wall, the Flyers found some of their magic from last season as they were able to come from behind twice in the game before winning in overtime and forcing a Game 7.

Michael Leighton got his first start in the playoffs, but it was brief after he was pulled during the first intermission after allowing 3 goals. The first two came on only four shots. Brian Boucher entered the game down 3-1.

The Flyers battled back down 3-1 to tie it, then once again to tie it at 4.

The hockey gods were calling Ville Leino‘s name as he became the hero for Philadelphia off a rebound from a Kris Versteeg shot 4:43 into overtime.

Thomas Vanek struck twice and Rob Niedermayer and Nathan Gerbe had one each.

Danny Briere also scored twice and James van Riemsdyk and Scott Hartnell tallied the other two.

The Flyers out-shot the Sabres 49-33 in the game.

NEXT GAME: Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.

No. 4 Anaheim Ducks at No. 5 Nashville Predators
GAME 6: ANA 2 – NSH 4

NASHVILLE – The Predators made their own history Sunday night as they closed out the series against the Ducks with a 4-2 win that sent them to the second round for the first time in franchise history.

The Ducks didn’t go down without a fight as they out-shot the Predators in the second and third periods, but it wasn’t enough. Teemu Selanne scored his playoff-leading sixth goal to open the scoring and Jason Blake got one on the power play. That was all she wrote for the Ducks’ offense.

Nick Spaling chose the right time to scores his first and second goals of the playoffs. Steve Sullivan tallied one and David Legwand added the empty-net, power play goal at the end.

The biggest question that now faces the Ducks over the summer is whether Selanne will return for another season in the NHL.

SERIES: 4-2 Nashville

No. 1 Vancouver Canucks at No. 8 Chicago Blackhawks
GAME 6: VAN 3 – CHI 4, OT

CHICAGO – Drawing comparisons to last year’s Flyers team, the Blackhawks are trying to accomplish the improbable and seemingly impossible task of overcoming a 0-3 deficit against the No. 1 team in the league.

Step One: Win a game. Check.
Step Two: Continue winning. Check.
Step Three: Force a seventh game. Check.
Step Four: Make history. TBD.

The Blackhawks are just one win away from replicating an incredible feat that has been done only three times in NHL history, most recently being last year.

Every time the Canucks scored, the Blackhawks were able to tie it back up. The game entered overtime tied at 3. Rookie Ben Smith scored his third of the series to push the series back to Vancouver.

Daniel Sedin, Alex Burrows and Kevin Bieksa each scored for the Canucks. Bryan Bickell and Dave Bolland scored while Michael Frolik added the third on a penalty shot.

Cory Schneider received the start for the Canucks, but was injured during Frolik’s penalty shot. Roberto Luongo replaced him for the remainder of the game.
