The biggest news of the week struck the Flyers fans right in the heart. After being pulled in a preseason game last week, it was learned Tuesday afternoon that goaltender Michael Leighton would be out at least one month with a bulging disk in his back. But that wasn’t the end of it. News was also released that fan favorite Ian Laperriere would be out indefinitely. It was learned the gritty wingers was suffering from post-concussion symptoms from when he took the puck to the face during the first round of the playoffs in April.

The Laperriere injury, however, may have opened up room in the Flyers roster for Bill Guerin, who is seeking a contract with the team.

GM Paul Holmgren is now relying on the “Three B’s” to handle the goaltending duties: Brian Boucher, Johan Backlund and Sergei Bobrovsky.

There were also a couple of different things keeping other players out this week. Danny Briere was out with infected tonsils and Guerin with an infected elbow. Chris Pronger remained out. Holmgren said there is no setback with Pronger.

A week after the opening of Flyers preseason, they trimmed up the roster to 28 players. Those who were returned to the Phantoms made it back in time for their camp to open on Wednesday.

Returned to the Phantoms:
Forwards: Greg Moore, Luke Pither, Matt Clackson, Garrett Klotz, Pat Maroon, Tye McGinn, Zan Rinaldo, Andrew Rowe, Shane Harper, Stefen Legein

Goaltenders: Nic Riopel, Brian Stewart
